Nintendo Entertainment System

From Accessible Gaming Wiki

For the 2016 dedicated mini console, see NES Classic Edition.

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is a third-generation video game console developed by Nintendo. It was first released in Japan on July 15, 1983 as the Family Computer (Famicom), and in North America on October 18, 1985. The first cartridge-based home console in the Nintendo family, it was succeeded by the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

In 1988, Nintendo released the NES Hands Free Controller, an early first-party adaptive controller designed for players with limited mobility. It used a chin-operated joystick for movement and a sip-and-puff tube for the A and B buttons.
