The Nintendo 64 is a fifth-generation video game console developed by Nintendo. It was first released in Japan on June 23, 1996, and in North America on September 29, 1996. The third cartridge-based home console in the Nintendo family, it succeeded the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and preceded the GameCube.

The Nintendo 64 was the first mainstream home console to include a controller with an analog stick as a standard feature. Its controller also supported the Rumble Pak, an add-on released in 1997 that was the first rumble device for a home console.
