SG-1000

From Accessible Gaming Wiki

The SG-1000 (Sega Game 1000) is a third-generation video game console developed by Sega. It was first released in Japan on July 15, 1983. The first console in the Sega family, it preceded the Master System. It used game cartridges for its games and also supported Sega My Card format games through a separately sold adapter.

The original SG-1000 has a hardwired joystick, the SJ-200, which cannot be easily removed. A second controller can be connected through a DE-9 port on the right side of the console. Sega later released an adapter cable, the JC-100, that allowed standard detachable controllers to replace the hardwired joystick. A revised model, the SG-1000 II, was released in July 1984 and shipped with two detachable controllers.
