3DO controller tactile guide

From Accessible Gaming Wiki

This page describes the physical and tactile features of the official controllers for the 3DO.

Panasonic 3DO Controller (FZ-JP2X)

The Panasonic 3DO Controller is a flat, rounded controller with no pronounced grips.

Left side

The left thumb rests on the D-pad, while the left index finger rests on the L button.

The D-pad is cross-shaped but mostly circular, similar in shape to the Xbox 360 D-pad. It has a round depression in the center. The D-pad is surrounded by a black, glossy circular area with four tactile marks, one beside each direction. The mark above the D-pad is the Fast Forward icon, the mark below it is the Rewind icon, the mark to the left is the Previous icon, and the mark to the right is the Next icon.

Right side

The right thumb rests on the B button, while the right index finger rests on the R button.

The A button is to the left of B, while the C button is to the right of B.

The B button has a small depression that provides a tactile landmark. The A and C buttons have plain surfaces without this depression.

The letters "A", "B", and "C" are marked above their respective buttons, but the markings are not tactile and cannot be felt.

Center

The X and P buttons are located on the lowest portion of the controller. They are smaller than the A, B, and C buttons.

The X button is marked with the Stop icon above it and the letter "X" below it. The P button is marked with the Play/Pause icon above it and the letter "P" below it.

Above the Stop and Play/Pause icons is the 3DO logo marking. Above the 3DO logo marking is the Panasonic logo marking.

The R marking is diagonally up and to the right from the Panasonic logo marking, while the L marking is diagonally up and to the left.

None of these markings are tactile and cannot be felt.

Top edge

The L and R buttons are located on the top edge of the controller.

The controller's cable extends from the top edge.

The top edge also has a cover for the Extension port.

Back

The word "EXTENSION" is marked on the upper portion of the back. The marking is tactile and can be felt.

The controller information is marked on the lower middle portion of the back. The text is tactile but subtle.
